| The use of fused glass as a medium is an exciting and intriguing technique, allowing the creater with limitless possibilities. Helen says "as I explore these possibilities and learn new ways to create glass art pieces in a kiln, my passion for glass continues to grow with nature being the creative force."
My glass art is created using a kiln to heat and then join the glass together. Glass is cut, crushed, and powdered to create designs. These designs in glass are carefully placed in a kiln then fired, often multiple times. Different temperatures create different effects, high temperatures makes the glass fluid and joins into one smooth piece. While lower temperature range creates a raised shape. Fired at an even lower temperature will slowly slump the piece of glass giving it shape. Once finished fusing the pieces may also be cold work by grinding, cutting and sandblasting. Through my years of working with glass I have developed my technique of creating depth and texture in my art glass by firing not only a full fuse but also a tack fuse. I use this style along with nature inspirations on my wall hangings and on the bowls and other art pieces. |
